The 2010 Birthday Gift Recap
Because I always have a difficult time remembering what gifts I received, I decided to recap it here. I’m sure there will be a few late comers to the game, but all of the 2010 gifts to date follow a certain theme, movement toward an epic video library. This year, Dom came through with a couple of Blu Ray selections, Robocop and The Departed. Both were movies that I wanted, and, at least in the case of The Departed, are must owns. [If you don’t know, I am collecting 80’s action films on Blu Ray so Robocop is must own for me.] Brian G and Rory came through with a Best Buy gift card that went toward the purchase ofRead More

This one goes way back to April 3, 2010. My friend Cute~Ella was celebrating her birthday and decided to make it a multi-faceted event, like only she and I can. We started with an Albany River Rats hockey game at the Times Union Center Arena. Oddly enough it was the final regular season game for the Albany River Rats, which was kind of cool and also kind of unexciting. I do not remember who the opposing team was but the quality of play was pretty shameful, and I’m not saying that as a professional hockey player but as someone who enjoys a good game of hockey if the mood is right. The party moved over to Bombers where Cute~Ella enjoyedRead More
derryX 2010 Birthday Celebration Part 1 Recap
This year I decided to split up my birthday celebration. The main motivation was that, since the actual day falls on a weekday (Tuesday July 27), I figured not a lot of people would come to that. So I spent the morning on Saturday, July 24 doing some of my usual routines. Starbucks and Troy Farmers Market with my girlfriend. While we were walking out of there, it started to rain, and this woman looked back at us and said, “OOOH YOU’RE GONNA GET WET!!” Turns out she was talking to a little baby, but she didn’t do much to get out of our way. It’s not like we wanted to get wet because we had to walk her turtleRead More
Birthday Countdown Flashback – 2009
This was a really fun year to celebrate. Well it was and it wasn’t. A few days before, I felt myself getting really down. And I’m not sure if it was the feeling of self-actualization or if I could see things falling apart with my marriage. But to celebrate this year, I decided to surround myself with some of the people I care about most and take over Wolff’s Biergarten the way the nWo usually does. I planned this on a weekend (actually 2 days before my birthday) so that a few heavy hitters could come, but I had no idea I would have the turn out that I did. Here’s a run-through of who made it: From the capitalRead More

Birthday Countdown Flashback – 2007
Fresh off the heels of an epic wedding and even more epic honeymoon all over Italy, it was time to celebrate my birthday in 2007. This was the year of the “Birthday Flip Flop.” This was a unique year because I actually spent my birthday celebrating someone else’s birthday. Turns out my then wife’s cousin decided to throw her party on the week after her actual birthday which, of course, had to coincide with mine. Luckily, my family was nice enough to celebrate with me the week prior to my birthday. Actually, my parents were even nicer and included Jeff Gorfman in the celebration. Here are some shots from this: So celebrating my birthday was all set at this point.Read More

So I decided to use 75 points that I accumulated on my trusty Subway Card today for a steak and cheese sub. I really like Subway’s steak and cheese sub, especially with lots of Chipotle Southwest sauce. Since I frequent this Subway establishment often, I noticed that there were two new employees on the line. Both were female, no older than 20. One was a sandwich artist, and the other was working the register. This caused the line to be a little longer than usual. The other staff on the line were doing what they needed to ensure proper training of new staff and adequate advancement of the customer line. There were three people ahead of me. In order, thereRead More
Birthday Countdown Flashback – 2006
Here’s where things get a little personal (but not too much). I hit a low point in early 2006. Circumstances aligned, and I ended up leaving graduate school for one reason or another. I also took a job commuting almost 2.5 hours (round trip) per day. Because of this stuff, I started disconnecting myself from my social circles. I went back to basics. That year, my birthday was a lot more simple. My buddies Jeff and Darth came up and hung out with me, Dom, and a few people who aren’t in the picture anymore. Schlubwurks, we called it. After we sat around, talked trash, watched Darth eat BLTs, and played Guitar Hero, we went to Muddy’s to watch karaoke.Read More
Birthday Countdown Flashback – 2005
In preparation for my birthday festivities at the end of this month, I’m running this feature in which I recap my last 5 birthdays. 2005 was a big year for Myspace. I actually used myspace to promote a fairly large party for myself at Bombers. The people I remember being there were Dom, his lady at the time, my lady at the time, Brian G., Kristina M., Claire, Leann, Stacy, and possibly a few others. It’s honestly a little difficult to remember who else may have been there because of (a) drinking the birthday margarita and (b) some drama regarding being late to my own party, which conveniently set the stage for everything I went through earlier this year. ItRead More

This story may have been told on my original Blogger blog, but I’m not sure. It’s just been prominent in my head for some reason in the past few days, so I’m gonna re-tell it for the millionth time. I was huge into Mortal Kombat II when it was in the arcades. I used to go constantly to the mall and to Burt’s Sportsplex in middlegare to play it. The difficulty dip settings on the machines in the mall were set much lower than at Burt’s, so, if there were very few people playing at the mall, I could easily get to Kintaro. There were some other regulars too. There was BEV Lowes, a heavy set guy who worked atRead More
