Scrummy

Yeah. I watch way too many cooking shows. It’s really not a new thing. I always loved the Food Network, even when it started and Molto Mario was Mediterranean Mario.

I was recently watching “French Food at Home” with Laura Calder on Cooking Channel, and she said something that really took me back to a great story from my childhood.

Laura was looking for a synonym for “delicious” to describe her dish (I don’t even remember what it was. Something French), and she had a thesaurus in her hand. I said that she loves “scrumptious” and “yummy,” but her personal favorite is “scrummy.” I am having trouble finding a print thesaurus that has this word in it, but, thanks to the wonders of the internet, Urban Dictionary has it defined.

For a long time, I thought my friend, Anibal, made up the word “scrum.” When we were in middle school, calling people “scrubs” was the cool thing to do. He got in trouble for calling a girl a scrub. She may have been or not, who remembers? So after that, he was walking on thin ice for a while. I remember one day finding out that he got detention for saying something to someone, and he later explained that it was for telling the girl, “you’re a scrum.” I laughed so hard because it sounded made up and like a hilarious word.

Occasionally, though, the word comes up in real life. It’s actually a term in rugby. I have no idea what it means nor do I even care to look it up, but it’s real. Also, it’s used to modify the word t-shirt. As a matter of fact, the nWo shirt I’m wearing in my avatar picture was listed as “Jet Black Scrum.” That made me laugh.

Back to Scrummy. I don’t think I’ll be adopting that word to describe food, mainly because I don’t want to laugh that hard every time I write. You have no idea how funny the combination of s-c-r-u-m is to me.
