Where’s the party going to be?
The way I see it, it’s time to start thinking about the yearly get together. Every year, I say I want to have even more events before the blog anniversary, but it takes a good amount of time and effort to plan these things, and time is something that I’m having less and less of these days.
The date is going to be June 14, which is the official 4th anniversary of the launch of derryX.com. It’s open to the public. It’s going to be lunch (or brunch), and we’re eventually going to end up at Snowman for ice cream, but I’m torn on where we’re eating that day.
I’ve been probing the situation on social media, and I’ve come up with a handful of options. I’ll list them along with bullets of pro’s for each venue.
The Flying Chicken
- It’s been a while since I’ve eaten there
- Counter service
- Simple menu that appeals to most
Pig Pit BBQ
- The pavilion made for a perfect venue for year 2.
- Counter service
- Lots of food options
The Ruck
- The new chef is a friend and mad cool.
- Counter service
- Wings
- Wing Burger
- Inventive brunch options (although I haven’t seen specials posted on facebook lately)
- Beer
Gus’s Hot Dogs
- The year 1 party was incredible.
- Counter service
- Grape soda
I’m definitely open to other ideas for venues. So feel free to comment or contact me privately.
One option that was suggested was Carmen’s Cafe in Troy. I’ve been meaning to stop back in since chef Faraci has been cooking, and lunch there with an army of hungry eaters might be the perfect opportunity. I would feel really bad, though, if the turnout is as big as it has been in the past and almost 40 people show up to a place with waited service.
The Ale House was another good suggestion, but I think The Ruck might work out better.
Wagon Train BBQ was thrown out there, and I love the food there, but it’s just way too far away from Snowman. Dinosaur BBQ was also suggested, with the caveat that it’s been a while since I’ve eaten there. Like I said before, though, if I’m going to eat BBQ in that vicinity, it’s going to be Pig Pit.
Places with counter service work out good so we don’t have to worry about splitting checks and all that jazz.
The beauty of a get together like this is that the company really takes the forefront over the food. I always bring a bag of tricks and we laugh about all of the great things going on, anyway. This get together will pretty much work anywhere, but I’d really like to have it somewhere where people (and I) can fill up on delicious food.
So I’ll ask again:
Where do you want to eat?
