derryX Disney Dines: Pepper Market (Coronado Springs)

Breakfast is probably the biggest racket going on the Disney Deluxe Dining plan. With lunch and dinner, at most participating restaurants, one dining credit gets you a non-alcoholic beverage, an appetizer, an entree, and a dessert. For breakfast, all you get with one dining credit is an entree and a beverage. Still, breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so we figured we should get a good meal early on in the day so that we could attack the day with boatloads of energy.

We visited Pepper Market twice during our five day stay. Once was the morning after we arrived and the next was a couple of days later.

When you are seated, you are handed menus, which creates the illusion that things are freshly prepared.

From the first glance at the menu, it’s obvious that it’s a buffet style setup, only it isn’t all you can eat. You get a ticket that you have to give to the person at the station where you order your entree and they stamp it.

The first time I went, I opted for a Mexican eggs Benedict burrito (Whole Grain Tortilla filled with egg, ham, and cheese topped with salsa verde and sauce choron). I didn’t see any burritos on the counter, so my hope was that it would at the very least be filled to order. Nope. They lifted a dome that had a bunch of fatties rolled, and dolloped the sauce choron (a tomato hollandaise), and salsa verde on top.

It was pretty awful. The hollandaise was gritty and flavorless. There were probably the equivalent of four scrambled eggs inside, and they were so dry. The tortilla was also really dry, so the sauces were imperative in order to swallow a bite of it.

It was convenient to have breakfast there a second time, but, on this go, I couldn’t get anything with cooked eggs, so I opted for pancakes.

Pancakes

They were served with a warm apple sauce and with packets of (high fructose corn) syrup. What can I say about standard buffet style pancakes?

It was on this second visit that we realized that even the omelettes weren’t being made to order. Cassie found this out the hard way.

I am sure that there are other viable breakfast options in Disney; hey, we even found one (I have yet to write about it). All I’m saying is that if you’re staying in Coronado Springs and you want a fresh breakfast, you’re not exactly gonna find it at the Pepper Market.
