derryX Cooks: New Years Day 2011
I will preface this by saying this is a derryX/Cassie co-venture.
For breakfast, we decided to stay in and cook a brunch that we saw Bobby Flay cooked on the Cooking Channel. I actually have never made biscuits from scratch before, so I was eagerly looking forward to doing this. We made a few slight substitutions. Instead of pork sausage, we used turkey sausage; instead of whole milk in the bechamel sauce, we used skim milk.
Our stuff came out great. I decided to document it pictorially.

We had a ton of biscuits left over, so lunch became biscuits with strawberry jam. Very tasty. No picture because you should have an idea of what it looks like. (It’s a biscuit with jam on top)
And for dinner, Cassie’s employer was kind enough to gift her a USDA Prime Rib Roast. We cooked it to a perfect medium rare and had it with some Malbec wine, baked potatoes and Caesar salad.
Here’s a glance at the roast:

It’s safe to say that the first day of 2011 was a great day for eating in my house!
Be jealous…
