2014 Initiatives
Looking back at 2013, it seems that I didn’t lay out any initiatives for the year. That’s a little surprising, since it always helps me to write down a few things that I want the next year to bring me.
Ohh well.
In 2013, I was able to super-charge my weight loss and get myself down to the weight I want to maintain. This is attributed to three things: DDP Yoga, Focus Master, and eating more vegetables. It was a lot of going to the gym, hard work, and creative eating to get to this point.
Now that I’ve reached this point, I can start to relax, right?
Well…kind of.
I announced on Facebook that my main 2014 initiative is “no gym”, and that turned a lot of heads. People thought I was crazy. Here’s a guy who went to the gym twice most days last year completely turning his back on it!
There’s a couple of reasons for this. One is that my gym is discontinuing Focus Master classes for the next few months. I could trek over to the three other locations to take the class, but the schedules at the other gyms are really different. I was already at the point where I had eliminated classic cardio and weight training, anyway, so it’s a natural point to put my gym membership on hold.
Another reason is that I have a recurring shoulder injury that is going to require me slowing down a little. I’ve been in pain or discomfort almost constantly for the past two months, and that’s mostly from the high impact, high cardio training.
I’m putting all of my eggs in the DDP Yoga basket. And I’m confident that it’ll keep me where I need to be.
I’m also going to incorporate even more vegetables into my diet. We’ve had a juicer sitting in the closet for over a year, so it’s time I put this thing to work. I’m at least going to try it for a while and see if I can benefit from it and maintain it.
Hopefully, 2014 is the year that we stop renting and finally get a house. I’ll be done paying for my car, so it’s good timing.
I’m going to continue teaching cooking classes this year. The one I’m teaching this month with my cousin is unfortunately sold out, but there are still some seats at my Italian comfort foods class next month.
As time permits, I’ll keep doing the blog. Posts have gotten a little sporadic, and I’ve taken some time off here and there. I try to maintain some consistency, and I’ll keep that going as much as I can this year. There are lots of great food events and new places to eat! And I’m sure some ridiculous things will happen to me that’ll be fun to turn into blog posts. Maybe there’ll be a guest post or two. You never know. Ya neva, eva know!
Aside from all this fun stuff, I’m sure 2014 will be an interesting year!
