Pick 5: Best Video Games Ever

“Pick 5” is going to be a gimmick that I run here, to try and get some good discussions going. I’ll pick 5 of whatever I want, and you can pick your 5 or comment on my five… Okay, so here’s my picks for some of the best video games ever. These are based on my personal experiences and purchases, so this is in no way fact and are in no particular order. Keep reading after for a little bonus. Ducktales (NES) – This was one of the first games I ever played that had an entire plot and a non-linear storyline. You played as Uncle Scrooge and your goal was to collect all of your money which has been stolenRead More

Video Game Queue

I’m somewhat backlogged on video games. I really haven’t be able to dedicate as much time to dedicate to gaming as I had in the past. I’m gonna run down all of my active consoles and list the games that I own that I have yet to play for an appreciable amount of time, if for no other reason than to have a list that I can refer to. Xbox360 Rockband Green Day Super Street Figther IV Nintendo DS Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hour Glass Final Fantasy III Final Fantasy IV Suikoden Tierkreis Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth Nintendo Wii Metroid Prime: Trilogy Punch-out! Movie Masterpieces

I’ve actually been referring to certain movies as “masterpieces” lately, and I just want to set the record straight as to what that actually means. Disclaimer: this is completely arbitrary and subject to personal opinion. I’ve seen thousands of movies, and I’ve loved many of those movies. There are a few that stand out to me. I’ve actually been referring to these movies as “masterpieces.” What I really mean by that is that, if you sit down, take in the entire movie, you feel as if it is a completely self-contained work. These movies, to me feel complete in things like plot, character development, exposition, and, to a certain degree music. I’m going to list a few movies that come to mindRead More

Mozzarella a la Genovesse

This was dinner for me and a young lady. My parents gave me about 2 cubic tons of fresh basil from their garden and I whipped up a monster 2 quarts of pesto a la Genovesse. We ate this with fresh chiabatta rolls.

Moving to High Definition

I am a major proponent of the movement toward high definition personal electronics, more specifically those which you can see and hear. I purchased a 42″ 1080p Plasma TV back in December 2007, and I have been incrementally upgrading from there. I purchased the next gen video gaming console, Xbox 360. I upgraded my cable DVR to the model with HDMI out. Most recently, one year ago, I purchased a blu ray player and 5.1 surround sound system. In my opinion, this has been the biggest gain in audio/visual experience since my parents got me a color TV in the late 80’s. A lot of people argue that the improvement in picture from DVD to Blu Ray is relatively insignificant. These peopleRead More

If you like to blog

I would certainly read this link. I used his advice back when I had my fairly popular Nerrysoft blogger blog. A few of the tips may be outdated, but I’d say if you listen to 99% of what he says, people may like to read your posts.

The truth about Howie Mandel…

One time, I told a kid “Howie Mandel blows goats,” and he believed me.

High Performance Liquid Chromatography

Not that anybody needs to know, but a major job function that I have is performing chemical analysis by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC or LC). This is an analytical technique used to monitor purity of many different classes of compounds, such as pharmaceuticals, foods, petroleum and oils (which are better analyzed by gas chromatography), proteins, and the list goes on and on. So that you can all understand, I will describe LC in the simplest terms possible – and (sorry to be cliché) I ask that you stay with me, because I can guarantee you will learn something. LC separates compounds in a mixture. An LC instrument is comprised of a pump, an injector, a column otherwise called stationary phaseRead More
