I needed an audio cable. Rather than patronize Radio Shack and spend $12.99 on the cable, I found it for $3.62 on amazon with free two day shipping. Why not? I placed the order and it shipped almost immediately. Here’s a screen capture of the tracking information:

Look carefully...

Yep. That’s right. The package sat in a UPS facility for exactly one week before moving. Before you jump to any conclusions, the box that it came shipped in was larger than a college Biology text book. So it’s not like it could have easily gotten lost. Rather than deal directly with UPS, I’ve been calling amazon immediately when I have a problem, and that’s what I did. They reshipped the order immediately. Here’s a screen capture of the tracking information:

WTF?!?!?!?!!?!!

To those of you who read Part 3 “United Parcel Surprise,” this will look familiar. The idiot driver decided to not leave the under $4 package in either of the two designated locations and made it so that I had to go out of my way to arrange to receive it. When I say I went out of my way, I mean that I wrote another nasty note.

Unbelievable.

Since I am an honest person, when the second cable finally arrived (which was a surprise, because I had given up on even tracking it), I went through the proper channels and arranged to return it.

That’s all I’m going to share about the shortcomings of UPS. But I would like to comment one final time on the commitment to customer service that amazon.com has. Every time the shipping was flubbed, someone at amazon.com was willing to do what was necessary to make me happy. They had to make assumptions and take my word for what was happening, and their doing so kept me a satisfied customer. I, in no way, think that amazon.com is providing a bad service, and would urge anyone to subscribe to amazon prime. My enthusiasm for this is just a testament to the high level of customer satisfaction that amazon has given me.

To UPS, you really have to get with the program. Like I said earlier, all you do is take a package from one place and put it in another place. It doesn’t get any easier than that…

From your postings, I know that you love the Amazon Prime program. That’s great… but is it worth it when obviously you will need to deal with UPS every single time? It seems like an awful a lot of headaches and heartaches… and I am not sure if you are getting this awesome benefit because of their delivery company they are choosing to use.

From a cost perspective, I have saved loads of money on stuff I would have bought at best buy. From an aggravation perspective, you’re right but like I said in part 1, this is a battle I’m not willing to lose…
