derryX in print…

I was recently approached by Kristi Gustafson Barlette, staff writer and social media strategist for the Albany Times Union newspaper and author of the mega-popular area blog, On The Edge, to answer some questions about my involvement with social media. The article she wrote which includes my comments appeared on the front page of the Sunday edition of the newspaper on August 14, 2011. That means there was more to read in this edition than coupons and store circulars. [that was a joke]

Since you’re here, you know that I dedicate a lot of time to this and to keeping the conversations going on twitter, facebook, and google plus, one of the newer social media websites. It’s a hobby, and a hobby that comes with the added perk of being able to also keep in touch with people. I consider myself bad at communicating through the telephone; I just can’t do it to get on the phone with people for the hell of it if I have nothing to talk about. I guess that’s called having an agenda, and verbally, I usually have none. Don’t get me wrong; I do use the phone to talk to people, and I don’t just hang up on people, but, as past writers for this blog have noted, I keep it pretty tight and concise when I’m on the phone.

Anyway, I hope you had a chance to pick up the Sunday paper and read Kristi’s article. I am pretty proud of the fact that I made it to the Times Union. It’s an indication that this little hobby of mine may be even the smallest bit significant outside of my head.
