One thousand and one…

This is post number 1001.

derryx 1001

It’s taken me almost 5 years to approach this figure, and I don’t know if that’s good or bad.

I launched the blog in 2010 as a means to have a creative outlet. That comes after a 5 year blogging hiatus, from which I thought I would never return. Along the way, between the things that worked and those that didn’t, the general association with the blog has become the derryX Dines feature. Much to the chagrin, I’m sure, of local food bloggers, this association and my background in the food industry has gotten me involved in the local food scene in the Capital region.

I’m not here to judge anyone for the things they do or eat, and I’m not going around talking like I know everything about everything thanks to the wonders of Google. This isn’t my job, and I don’t make believe that it is. I use this space to highlight my own experiences, good, bad, and indifferent.

I’ve had to become creative about keeping up with the blog for the last year or so. That stems from the fact that this is a hobby and usually is the first or second thing to get shoved aside when things come up.

So what have I been up to?

Well, I have a full time job.

We recently bought a house, and tasks pertaining to that come up from time to time.

I’m also studying to obtain Level 1 certification in DDPYoga. And I’m on track to become the first certified instructor in upstate NY. Part of the requirements for this is teaching classes, which I’ve been doing privately, and which I’ll be bringing to my workplace starting this week.

I’m working on bringing back my Italian Comfort Foods cooking class and the Pizza Cousins class with Bobby, both at Different Drummers Kitchen in Albany.

I’m working on a writing project that I can’t really talk much about.

In between those things, I like to have a little time with some television, film, music, books, or video games.

Then I work on the blog. I put a lot of energy and pulled multiple resources into the Halloween antics this year. I have fun working on projects like that, and the feedback I get is usually positive.

For the future, I really hope to get back to some blog projects. I’m working on a new feature that is going to involve participation from people in the food industry. I have some ideas for some social dining events, including the first and possibly last “Bang-Bang” dinner in the Capital Region. A while back, I unsuccessfully took two shots at naming a successor; maybe it’s time to try again.

All of these things take time, but I think I should have some time in the forthcoming months.
