derryX Wedding: Mens’ Formalwear – Tuxego

This series of posts showcases the lovely images of our wedding as captured by Andy Kainz Photography (with the help of Marcie Pry) along with some stories from the big day.

If I may say so, I looked pretty damn good on my wedding day.

When Cassie and I sat down to plan out the big day, we both agreed that we wanted our formal affair to be relatively informal, and that having me in a tuxedo really wouldn’t have fit with the vibe we were going for. I could have bought a suit, but I figured I’d stop by Tuxego and talk with my friend, Anthony, to see what kinds of less formal stuff he could provide. The main motivation for this was that I didn’t want to buy a suit. If you’re a numbers person, I weigh 30 pounds less today than I did on the wedding day (exactly 6 months ago yesterday); a custom suit would have been a waste of money.

There were a few things to choose from, but I wound up settling on the grey suit you see above. Not only was it perfect for the event, but it was a small nod to the type of suit my grandfather used to wear. My grandfather was a tailor who designed suits for many years. Given his tremendous skill with this (he always talked about how he made suits for NFL players and movie stars), he always made himself suits that were humble and understated. He passed away in 2005.

Anthony and his crew easily accommodated measurements of my two out-of-town groomsmen, and put up with me wanting to be re-fit almost weekly leading up to the event. I was really picky about this, because, as someone who doesn’t fancy mens’ formalwear, the last thing I wanted to be on my wedding day was uncomfortable with something too loose or too tight. We also worked together to pick out something different that my father-in-law could wear.

I was definitely pleased with the look of the attire, but I was most pleased with the comfort of it. Throughout the whole day, everything I was wearing stayed looking and feeling great.

Working with Tuxego was awesome, as it always has been for me. I can’t imagine dealing with anyone else for formalwear, honestly.

Here are some pictures of the mens’ formalwear throughout the day.
