Coming back for one last season: Jersey Shore Recraps

This is a blog, and I shouldn’t have to explain myself for the content I put up, but I put myself in an odd spot when I started my shooting-fish-in-a-barrel recaps (dubbed “recraps”) of episodes of the Jersey Shore. Back when the recaps started, an old friend and I thought it would be fun to post stuff like that even if people weren’t reading it.

After I took it over, the popularity of those posts skyrocketed in a completely unpredictable way. I wanted to give up doing them after season 4, but I started getting an overwhelming amount of requests. So I figured, “what the hell? I’m watching it anyway” (Trust me, after using my brain as much as I do at work, it’s nice to sit down for something mindless once a week — admittedly more, since I seem to gravitate toward reality TV).

Over the course of the recraps of season 5, something really weird started happening. Over the last 2+ years, I’ve gotten the reputation of being “the food guy,” and that’s flattering as hell. But for every two people I’ve met that recognized me as such, there was another that knew me as “the Jersey Shore guy.” I know I’m embracing that by continuing to do the recaps, but to me, there’s some funny irony there since I resisted an upbringing in that type of nuclear family, and I’ve never even been to the Jersey Shore!

But anyway, the show is coming back for its final season. And I only mention it because the recraps are coming back, and because I saw the most ridiculous promo on MTV for the show.

The promo makes it look like the final stand of something legendary like The Sopranos, and I shudder to think that there are people out there who will probably cry when it ends. But the promo is funny for another reason. It has these nobodies, jobbers if you will, reciting the dumb catchphrases that the kids of the Jersey Shore house made popular.

The first time I saw it on TV, I barely recognized it as a Jersey Shore promo, but after finding it on MTV.com, I laughed hysterically. You gotta see this!

Jersey Shore comes back for its final season on October 4 in it’s usual 10-11PM time slot on MTV.

It’s going to be a great season (no it’s not), and I can’t wait for it to be over!
