Eat Ice Cream and Help Make-A-Wish!

When it comes to doing charitable things, the Make-A-Wish Foundation is something I like to support whenever possible. By donating to Make-A-Wish, I can sleep happily at night knowing that whatever I contribute, no matter how small, is going toward putting a smile on the face of someone in need.

While on the Allure of the Seas, I made a donation to their Wishes At Sea program, and there were a number of children on board whose wish was to be on a cruise. That’s huge. The nifty t-shirt I got (see above) was pretty cool, and, whenever I wear it, it reignites the feeling of pride for doing a nice thing.

On the way back from the cruise, I mentioned to Cassie that I wanted to do something for Make-A-Wish through the blog. I haven’t really figured out exactly what I can contribute on my own. But I’m working on it.

Fortuitously, through my contacts at All Over Albany, I was recently contacted by a representative of White Management, the management company who runs Creo, Bountiful Bread, and Cold Stone Creamery, about helping out with Cold Stone’s Make-A-Wish program for the month of September.

All I needed to hear was “Make-A-Wish,” and I would do anything to participate!

The people at Cold Stone Creamery are going to let me behind the counter this Thursday evening, and I’ll be helping out in making your ice cream.

Here’s the official statement from White Management:

The Make-A-Wish® Northeast New York Chapter is teaming up with Cold Stone Creamery – Stuyvesant Plaza for a day-long fundraiser to grant wishes of children facing live threatening medical conditions.  On Thursday, September 27 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. one dollar from each Love It® or Got to Have It® creation will go to Make-A-Wish.

So how it works is you come in, you order ice cream, you pay the normal price for your ice cream, and Cold Stone Creamery will donate $1 to Make-A-Wish. If you’d like to donate more, you will be able to do so. Instead of working for tips, I’ll be working for donations.

I’ve dreamed up my own special creation for this event. It’s going to be what I’m going to order on my way out.

  • Sweet Cream Ice Cream (I’m going with Sinless sans fat)
  • Raspberries
  • Brownies
  • Almonds

I’m calling it the “Make-A-Wish 4 life.”

Cold Stone Creamery is donating $1 of the proceeds of each ice cream sold all day on Thursday, but if you come between 8:30 and 10PM, I’ll be there! Come by and do something nice while you stuff your face with ice cream!

You can learn more about the Northeast New York Chapter of Make-A-Wish here.

If you are unable to come for ice cream on Thursday but would still like to make a donation to Make-A-Wish, you can do so here.
