derryX Disney Dines: Kouzzina by Cat Cora (Boardwalk)

On the day we decided to dedicate to EPCOT, we trekked into Disney’s Boardwalk resort for breakfast to check out Kouzzina by Cat Cora, which participates in the deluxe dining plan. I was hoping it would be a redeeming breakfast after the travesty that was Pepper Market in Coronado Springs.

Breakfast on the dining plan is kind of a waste because you basically miss out on an appetizer and dessert, but I really like starting out the day with some eggs. Also, even eating two meals with appetizer-entree-dessert per day is difficult; take it from this person who loves food. You get sick of it quickly eating that much of it!

Looking over the menu, the signature breakfast, The Stacked Kouzzina Breakfast (Two Poached Eggs, Kalamata Olive Toast, Artichoke Spread, and Sweet Potato Hash with choice of Bacon or Chicken Sausage), really looked appealing to me.

I first ordered a coffee to start, and the waitress decanted it out of a metal can that was sitting on a windowsill right behind my neck. It was awful.

Awful coffee

I ordered the frappé (because Cassie let me try a sip of hers), and it was glorious!

Breakfast was very tasty.

The eggs were poached slightly hard, but were just runny enough to sauce the hash ever so slightly. The sweet potato hash had good flavor, but suffered from the mushiness that occurs by preserving sweet potatoes. I don’t want to say they were definitely from a can, but I’m open to the possibility.

The artichoke spread was the star of the dish; it had a nice vibrancy and packed a salty punch that permeated all of the other components on the dish. I loved dragging the kalamata olive bread (which was a little dry) through everything and soaking up some goodness. The chicken sausage were chewy and flavorful but not outstanding.

It was the good prelude to a great day at EPCOT, and, the best part was, the restaurant was close to an entrance to EPCOT, so we didn’t even need to take transportation to get to the park.

Another good one…the problem with being a celebrity chef and having your name on a restaurant is that big factor of the house cooks and servers. You go in with high expectations because she is an iron chef and the food rarely clears the bar.

That is such a shame. I had dinner there on vacation last month and it was the highlight of the trip. Too bad you didn’t experience dinner, I would have enjoyed your persepective.

I was wondering how breakfast was… I’ve had dinner there twice. The lamb is not to be missed
